Pharmavite LLC selected Opelika, Alabama, as the location for its new east coast manufacturing facility for its Nature Made® lines of soft gels, tablets and gummies. Delivered as design-build (Whiting-Turner Contracting,) this greenfield design and construction project had a very aggressive schedule. The duration from notice to proceed on design to commercial, sellable product leaving the plant loading dock, was 16 months. The project included the design of process air handling systems for two Thomas continuous tablet coaters. Equipment includes eight tablet presses, 15 soft gel production lines, and five packaging lines. Utilities included chilled water, steam, heating hot water, clean dry air (CDA), N2, Ar, VAC, RO water, generator backed power, and process waste. More than 50% of the facility is cGMP rack and store warehouse space for raw materials and material in process. The 8,000 sf of GLP laboratories include QA/QC Lab, Chemistry Lab, HPLC Lab with Central UPS, ICPMS Lab, ICP Lab, GC Lab, Dissolution Lab, GC, Technical OPS Lab and Microbiology Lab space. The support space includes Samples Storage Room, Glasswash and Chemical Storage, as well as lockers for the manufacturing. Approximately 200,000 sf of this LEED® Certified facility is cGMP rack and store warehouse space for raw materials, WIP, and finished goods.
