O’Brien Atkins began its relationship with the Museum developing a Master Plan and the Bioquest 2000 Plan. Bioquest 2000 developed recommendations for additional exhibits to expand the Museum and enhance its visitor appeal. One suggested exhibit was the Magic Wings Butterfly House.
O’Brien Atkins’ transparent design features a 35-foot tall glass conservatory where guests enjoy a total butterfly-immersion experience in a rainforest environment. One of the Museum’s most popular exhibits, Magic Wings houses more than 50 different butterfly species and is one of the largest butterfly houses on the east coast. It is also home to the Bayer Insectarium featuring a rare assortment of exotic insects and invertebrates from around the globe.
